<Haisen (Cup Washer)>
This is a cup washer named “Haisen”, which was used in the late Edo to Meiji period in Japan.
At that time, people shared a single cup to drink sake during the drinking party to deepen their friendship. Therefore, people used water in Haisen to wash the cup during the drinking party.
The flower and butterfly are beautifully depicted on it. The butterfly has meanings of “wishes to live long life”, “rebirth”, and “immortality”. We believe that it is very important to convey Japanese traditional culture to the world.
Please take a look to the interiors when you arrive at the store.
<Cup Made of Pure Silver>
Pure silver is used for the inside of the cup, and mokume gane that is made from the layers of silver, shakudo, and copper, is used for the outside of the cup.
The cup looks very small, but it has weight.
In Europe, silver was often used as a material for the cup because the cup will directly touch inside of the mouth. This cup is also made of silver and mokume gane are complementing it beautiness.
